Paintings

While I often struggle with the unpredictability of painting, each attempt deepens my appreciation for the medium and its timeless materials. At the moment I am working on several representational paintings– some interiors, landscapes, and architectural scenes– and several abstract geometric paintings deriving from a grid structure.

While my subjects vary, I am generally interested in how our environments— both physical and internal— are arranged and constructed. The act of painting can both intensify and relieve the emotional complexity of our sensory experience. Our built environments shape what we see, reflect our cultural priorities, contain our systems, and regulate our contact with nature. By privileging geometry and light across subject matter, my paintings refrain from immediate judgement, inviting viewers to linger on what they see before deciding what it means.
